If I place my child in a Point Pleasant pediatric care community, does that mean I lose custody?
- Absolutely not. Parents remain the guardian and can be actively involved in their child’s care.
- Point Pleasant is intended to be an extension of your own home.
What type of care will my child receive?
- 24 hour nursing, respiratory care (as required), and appropriate therapies.
- Weekly visits from our Medical Director.
How will I pay for care & services?
- Your child’s insurance will provide funding for admission to Point Pleasant.
- Our social services staff will assist with all the required paperwork.
What is the shortest amount of time in which you can facilitate an admission?
- Every situation is unique and handled on an individual basis, however, an admission can be completed within 1-3 days.
What if I don’t live in the same state as the Point Pleasant pediatric care community I have selected for my child?
- In most instances, our social services team can coordinate your child’s admission so that they can benefit from our services.
Can my child still be followed by the specialty Doctors (i.e. Pulmonary, ENT Cardiology)?
- Yes, Point Pleasant wants to maintain that continuity of care for your child.
How does my child get to medical appointments?
- Point Pleasant will arrange all appointments and a transport team will bring your child to the Dr’s office.
What if I decide to take my child home, who will help me coordinate services?
- Our medical team will assist with any training needed, and will coordinate any equipment, nursing and school needs necessary.
When can I visit?
- Anytime you like! Point Pleasant has an open door policy for parents/primary caretakers.
Can I stay overnight?
- Yes. We have comfortable guest suites where you can feel right at home.
Can I call to get an update on my child?
- You can call any day and any time that is convenient for you. We will provide you with a special toll-free number.
Can I bring my other children to visit?
- We strongly encourage sibling involvement. We request that you talk to our nurse prior to visits regarding immunizations.
What if I do not have reliable transportation?
- Most of our locations are easily accessible to public transportation. Our social service staff will help you with transportation information and transfer options.
Will my child receive school services?
- Yes, some children may attend school in a local classroom while others will receive in-home services.
Will my child be able to participate in any activities outside of Point Pleasant?
- Yes, we strongly encourage community life and coordinate local outings. If your child is too medically compromised, they will still have community interaction with visits from volunteers and enjoy participating in our parties and special events.
